The Maekawa Jiro is a medium sized fruit that is rounded, smoother
and less indented than the Jiro. It's sweet and the color is a rich orange. It's sweet
and ripens in mid-season.
Oriental persimmons prefer moderate winters and relatively
mild summers. They are suitable for growing in Hardiness Zones
6 to 10. The Maekawa Japanese persimmon tree is a handsome ornamental
and performs best in full sun with well drained, slightly
acidic soil. They can grow up to 15 feet tall.
You should see fruit on these trees in approx. 1-3 years
depending on your climate.
